Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania was awarded for outstanding achievements

within the ICPS International Electoral Awards 2013

(December 4, 2013, Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia)

The Permanent Electoral Authority was awarded for outstanding achievements within the “First Time Voter Award” category. The PEA Romania involvement in promoting the young people turnout activity was very much appreciated and awarded by the International Electoral Awards Committee within the ICPS International Electoral Awards 2013. The event took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on December 4, 2013. The International Electoral Awards represents an initiative of the International Center for Parliamentary Studies (ICPS) that promotes the international recognition and involvement of the electoral activities of electoral management bodies from around the world. The members of the International Electoral Awards Committee decided to nominate the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania as a finalist within “First Time Voter Award”, considering that “the initiative focusing on the participation of young people in the democratic voting process is truly encouraging and innovative. The approach that has been taken by the PEA is inclusive, original and promises a long term impact on young voters in Romania. The Permanent Electoral Authority’s “First Vote” project was appreciated by the members of the Committee as “an exemplary function for countries to approach young and first time voters and hence to be award-worthy. The “First Vote” project is a part of the strategy of Permanent Electoral Authority to promote voter turnout and run under the slogan “Vote for you, vote for youth! “. The webpage www.primulvot.ro was officially launched in 2010, during a wide information campaign conducted by the Permanent Electoral Authority in Bucharest’s high schools and throughout the country and it represents a virtual space for exchanging information and electoral debates, dedicated to the young first time voters. The Permanent Electoral Authority congratulates all the finalists of ICPS International Electoral Awards, among which we mention the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova, recognized outstanding achievements within the: “Citizens Engagement Award” category, the National Electoral Commission of the Republic of Slovenia, winner of the “Electoral Management Award” and the “Commission of the year award”; Mrs. Irena Hadziabdic – Member of the Central Electoral Commission of Bosnia & Herzegovina, internationally recognized for outstanding achievements within “Electoral Management Award”; Central Electoral Commission of Georgia, winner of the “First Time Voter Award”; The Supreme Election Council of Turkey, Winner of “ ICPS Award for managing transition”. Mrs. Ana Maria Pătru, President of the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania and President of the Association of European Electoral Officials (ACEEEO) expresses her consideration for the role and the remarkable achievements of the ACEEEO members in consolidating democracy.
