Press release privind preluarea preşedinţiei ACEEEO de către preşedintele Autorităţii Electorale Permanente, doamna Ana Maria Pătru.

Today, 13 of September, the President of the Permanent Electoral Authority, Mrs. Ana Maria Pătru has just taken over  the Presidency of the Association of European Election Officials (ACEEEO).

The elections to the prestigious leadership of ACEEEO were hold within the annual conference of ACEEEO hosted by the National Election Commission and National Election Office of Poland, in the period 12-14 of September,  in Warsaw.

The Permanent Electoral Authority will organize in Bucharest, the General Assembly and the 23rd Annual Conference of ACEEEO, in September, 2014.

Taking into consideration that next year we will celebrate a decade since the Permanent Electoral Authority was established, in 2004, and the fact that Romania accomplishes 25 years since the beginning of a new democratic era, we would be honoured to host such an important event”, said the President of the Permanent Electoral Authority Mrs. Ana Maria Pătru,  in a speech today, within  the ACEEEO Conference.

The main topics proposed by the Permanent Electoral Authority on the next year agenda of the Annual Conference are: Electoral management - How to plan a general election and Participation of women in electoral processes and public life.

"The electoral administration must be impartial, non-political and have the institutional capacity for organising free and fair elections (...) We are committed to promoting equal opportunities for the full participation of women in all aspects of political and public life”,  stated the President of Permanent Electoral Authority with regard to the next year topics of the ACEEEO Conference.

The 22nd Annual Conference of ACEEEO hosted, this year, in Warsaw by the National Election Commission was held under the title "The Role of Information and Communication Technology and Social Media in Elections ". The debates focused on two main subjects. "Development of Voting Technologies since 2000" and "The Challenges of the Social Media development in electoral matters" .

 

Permanent Electoral Authority is represented by a delegation that included: Mrs. Ana Maria Pătru, President, Mr. Csaba Tiberiu Kovacs, Secretary General, and Mr. Cristian Petraru , Head of department for organizing electoral processes.

During the debates, Mrs. Ana Maria Pătru and Mr. Cristian Petraru made a presentation regarding „The implementation of Electoral Registry in Romania: Targets and Challenges”. The Romanian election officials presented the progress of implementation of this major project undertaken by the Permanent Electoral Authority which represents a modern instrument of electors registration in Romania.

Tomorrow, September 14, Mr. Csaba Tiberiu Kovacs, Secretary General of the Permanent Electoral Authority will chair the workshop on "Directions in the development of ICT technologies applied in elections. Today and the future”

 

Association of European Election Officials is an independent regional electoral organisation with a legal status based on international law.

The Permanent Electoral Authority is part of ACEEEO membership since 2004. In 2006 Permanent Electoral Authority hosted in Bucharest the meeting of ACEEEO Executive Board. Two years later,  Romania hosted the 17th Annual Conference of ACEEEO.

ACEEEO mission, according to the Charter is to provide a non-partisan forum, independent of national governments, for the exchange of information among election officials and experts throughout Europe to discuss and act upon ways to promote open and transparent elections with the objective of supporting good governance and democracy.
